3. Shannon Taylor Vannatter: Avoiding Rejection and Redlines

We’ll cover timeline, passage of time, POV, show don’t tell, continuity, keeping your character real, character confusion, wrangling backstory, avoiding backflips and contrivances, character reactions, must have elements of scenes, and repetitiveness. The result – clean copy that will grab the editor and make it hard for them not to offer you a contract again and again.
2:15-2:30 p.m. Break
4. Peggy Archer: Using Rhythm and Rhyme to Make Your Poetry Sing
2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Tips from an Author of Children’s Poetry. Choose the right words, then put them together to create the right rhythm. Follow with tips to make your rhyme sublime! Then take a look at revisions that go from ho-hum! to zing! Bring 4-8 lines of rhyming poetry for an in-session workshop.
