Poetry / Prose Contests

Give us your best summertime activities, memories, or nostalgia around this theme. There are two separate contest options.

POETRY CONTEST:
Free verse poem, 28-line maximum.

PROSE CONTEST:
Short story, between 1200 and 1500 words.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Entries must be postmarked by May 29, 2021.

• Winners will be announced in late June.

• Prizes awarded are $25 for 1st, $15 for 2nd, & $10 for 3rd in each category.

• Contest fee is $5 per entry. You may enter as many times as you want; $5 for each item entered. Entries not accompanied by fee will not be included in judging.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

• Use standard contest formatting as listed on our website.

• Put “Summer Prose” or “Summer Poetry” in the top left header.

• List the word count, not including title, in the upper right header for prose entries.

• Number the pages in the footer.

• Do not include identifying information on your entry.

• Include a cover page with your contact information, the title of your entry, and the first line of your entry, in case of duplicate titles.
